Are you there Ambien? It's me, Gabi

(mommy mandated pre-taiwan picture)

So after about a full day of traveling, I am finally sitting in the lobby of NTSU. hooray. The trip started out kind of rocky when while checking my luggage, we found out it was two pounds overweight. Those magazines and my straightener were going to cost me 90 bucks, so some hasty repacking was done. After that small little road block, I got on to the train to get to my terminal..and then it broke down..underground...in a tunnel. Needless to say when we finally started moving and got to the next stop I got off and walked the rest of the way. Nothing really eventful happened after that-just waited around to get on the plane and slip into a peaceful slumber until we arrived in the Tokyo airport. OR SO I THOUGHT. I settled in, popped an ambien, turned on my ipod, and prepared to drift off and wake up in Tokyo...and waited...and waited...The good news is I slept. The bad news is it was on and off for less than an hour. Cool ambien. Thanks for nothing. And that's the story behind how I was up for 14 hour trip from Atlanta to Tokyo.
We got to Tokyo earlier than planned and walked around a little bit.
Things learned:
-Kit Kats come in other flavors besides milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. They also come in green tea, cherry, and my personal favorite, Wasabi. Just kidding I didn't try it, but if they sold them in packages smaller than a 10 pack, I would have been all over that.
-There is an abundance of guys wearing skinny jeans. It's just awkward and wish they would change
- The middle picture is the sign for a bidet. They have them in the Tokyo airport, making it hard to figure out how to flush the toilet
Time flew by and before we knew it, it was time to get on the plane to take us to Taipei. Four hours felt like nothing after the first leg of the trip, I was also FINALLY able to nap on and off, and when I woke up we were approaching Taipei. When we got there we went through immigration and customs, got out luggage, met the NTSU students and got on the bus to take us to our new school for the next three weeks. When we got to the lobby, they had bubble tea and these egg dumplings for us. Amazing. I am literally going to eat my way through Taiwan. I actually thought I hated bubble tea, but what we have in the states is absolutely nothing like how it is here. It is so sweet, and the tapioca "bubbles" have a great consistency. The egg dumplings (I think they were called egg cakes) were out of this world! They were kind of a crepe-y consistency and served a hot sauce that was milder and sweeter, but slightly resembled siracha. It's almost midnight right now and I'm exhausted. I should probably try to get some sleep since we have to be up and ready by 8:30 tomorrow (thinking about going for a run before??). We have our reception, activities, and we're going to a hot pot restaurant tomorrow!! like I said-after 3 weeks here I'm going to get so fat!!
